atha paramadaṇḍinottamadaṇḍineti "sanmahat()" (2.1.61) ityādinā samāse kṛte ṅamantāt? tṛtīyaikavacane tasya nuṭ? kasmānna bhavati; atra hi "yaci bham()" (1.4.18) iti bhatve'pi samāsasya hyasvādikārāt? paro ṅam? nakāraḥ, tadantāddaṇḍinetyasmādyā vibhaktistasyāṃ luptāyāmapi pratyayalakṣaṇena (1.1.62) labdhapadasaṃjñatvāt? tṛtīyaikavacanamacparaṃ bhavatītyasti ṅamuṭprāptiḥ? ityāha--"paramadaṇḍinā" tyādi. uttarapadatve uttarapadavyapadeśe katrtavye satyapadādividhau padāvidhidheranyatra pratyayalakṣaṇaṃ na bhavatīti vākyārthaḥ. asati pratyayalakṣaṇe daṇḍinetyasya padasaṃjñā na bhavati. tataśca padāntāduttarasyocyamāno ṅamuḍāgamo na bhavati.
evaṃ tāvat? kātyāyanamatena parīhāra uktaḥ. yastu sūtrakāramatena, taṃ darśayitumāha--"atha vā" ityādi. pada ityanuvṛttī satyāmacā pade viśeṣyamāṇe "yasmin? vidhistadādāvalgrahaṇe" (vā.14) ityanenājādau pade kāryeṇa bhavitavyam(), na cātrājādi padamasti, tatkuto nuṭprasaṅgaḥ.
atha nityagrahaṇaṃ kimartham(), yāvatottarasūtre (8.3.33) vāgrahaṇādeva nityo vidhirvijñāsyate? satyametat(); pūrvasūtre'pi 8.3.31 nityatvaṃ vijñāyeta. tasmāt? pūrvasūtreṣu "he mapare vā" 8.3.26 ityato "vā" itnuvatrtata iti jñāpanārthaṃ nityagrahaṇam()॥
