The following irregular endings are substituted for the various case endings in the Veda : (1) ((s)) of the Nom. Sg. for ((as)) of the Plural, (2) the {luk}-elision of the case-endings, (3) the single substitution of the homogeneous long vowel for the end vowel of the stem, (4) ((ā)), (5) ((āt)), (6) ((e)) (((śe))) for the ending of the Nom. Plural, (7) ((yā)), (8) ((ā)) (((ā))), with the elision of the last vowel and the consonant, if any, that follows it in the stem, (9) ((yā)) (((ṅyā))) with the similar shortening of the stem (10) ((yā)) (((yāc))) and ((ā)) (accent of ((la)))|| Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

[In the Chándas 38] the substitute elements sU, luK (0̸¹), a long vowel corresponding to the preceding one (pūrva-sa-varṇá-°), ā, āt, Śe, Ḍā, Ḍyā, yāC and āL replace the sUP triplets [introduced after 3.1.2 a nominal áṅga 6.4.1].
