"ṣaṅbhyo luk? 7.1.22 iti lukā bādhitatvāt(). athauśbhāvasya lugapavādatvādatra lukraṃ bādhitvā sa eva bhavati. pūrvatrāpi tarhi sa eva stāt(), ata eva hetoḥ? ityāha--"ṣaṅbhyo lugityasyāpavādo'yam()" iti. atraivopapattimāha--"nāprāpte" ityādi. "ṣaṅbhyo luk()" 7.1.22 ityasamāse prāpnoti--aṣṭau tiṣṭhantītyādau, samāse ca--aṣṭaputra ityādau. tasmānnāprāpte aṣṭabhāryaḥ--ityatra sublukaiva bhavitavyamityauśatvaṃ na bhavati.

aṣṭābhiviṃkarṣayatītyatra bhakārādikāra udāttaḥ. `anudāttaṃ padamekavarja'miti
śiṣṭamanudāttam. dīrghāditi viśeṣaṇādaṣṭabhirityatra ātvā'bhāvasthale bhisa udāttatvaṃ
na bhavati, kiṃtu madhyodāttatvameva, `jhalyupottama'mityasya pravṛtteḥ. ṣaṭ?caturbhyo
yā jhalādivibhaktistadante pade vidyamānamupottamamudāttaṃ syāditi tadarthaḥ. yadi tu
aṣṭana ātvaṃ nityaṃ syāttarhi aṣṭabhiriti hyasvāntavyāvṛttaye kriyamāṇaṃ
dīrghagrahaṇamanarthakaṃ syāt, vyāvarttyā'bhāvāt. ātvasya vikalpitatve tu
tadabhāvapakṣe aṣṭabhiriti vyāvarttyasya sattvāddīrghagrahaṇamarthavat. ato
dīrghagrahaṇamaṣṭana ātvasya vaikalpikatve jñāpakamityarthaḥ. aṣṭāviti.
aṣṭanśabdājjaśśasorauś. śittvātsarvādeśaḥ. `aṣṭābhya' iti
nirdeśānnakārasyātvaṃ, savarṇadīrghaḥ, vṛddhiriti bhāvaḥ. paramāṣṭāviti. `aṣṭābhya
au'śityasya āṅgatvāttadante'pi pravṛttirityarthaḥ. aṣṭābhiriti. halādau ātve
savarṇadīrghaḥ. aṣṭānāmiti. ādau nuṭi kṛte sati halāditvādātvam. naca
nāntatvaprayuktaṣaṭ?saṃjñakaśabdasannipātamupajīvya prava#ṛttasya
nuṭastadvighātakamātvaṃ prati kathaṃ nimittatvamiti vācyaṃ, nahi ṣaṭsannipātena jātasya
nuṭa ātve'pi tadvighātakatvaṃ, kṛtātve'pi sthānivattvena ṣaṭtvasattvāt
`śamāmaṣṭānāṃ dīrghaḥ śyanī'tyādinirdeśenā'tra sannipātaparibhāṣāyā
anityatvāśrayaṇācceti bhāvaḥ. ātvā'bhāve iti. `aṣṭano dīrghā'diti
dīrghagrahaṇenātvavikalpasya jñāpitatvāditi bhāvaḥ. yadyapi `aṣṭano dīrghā'diti
sūtre śasādivibhaktiṣu parataḥ svaravidhāyake dīrghagrahaṇaṃ śasādiṣvevātvavikalpaṃ
jñāpayituṃ śaknoti natu jasi, tathāpi jñāpakasya
sāmānyāpekṣatvājjāsyapyātvavikalpa iti bhāvaḥ.
bahuvrīhau priyāṣṭanśabdo viśeṣṭanighna ekadvibahuvacanāntaḥ. tatra viśeṣamāha–
gauṇatve tviti. aṣṭanśabdārthasyāprādhānye satītyarthaḥ. ātvā'bhāve iti.
`aṣṭano dīrghā'diti dīrghagrahaṇenātvasya vaikalpikatvajñāpanāditi bhāvaḥ. rājavaditi.
`prāyeṇe'ti śeṣaḥ. priyāṣṭā priyāṣṭānau priyāṣṭānaḥ. priyāṣṭānam,
priyāṣṭānau. śaśi priyāṣṭa iti. `allopo'naḥ' ityakāralopaḥ. nanu kṛte'llope
nakārasya ṣṭutvena ṇatvaṃ kuto na syādityata āha–iheti. ihā'llopasya
sthānivadbhāvānna ṣṭutvamityanvayaḥ. allopasya sthānivattve sati
akāravyavahitatvānna ṣṭutvamiti bāvaḥ. nanu sthānini sati yatkāryaṃ
tadevādeśe'tideśyate. sthānini sati yatkāryaṃ na bhavati tadādeśe na bhavati ityevaṃ
kāryā'bhāvastu nātidiśyate. anyatā `nāyaka' ityādau āyādyabhāvaprasaṅgāditi
sthānivatsūtre sthitam. tasmādallopasya sthānivattvānna ṣṭutvamityanupapannam.
`acaḥ parasmin' iti sūtraṃ tu yadyapi sthānini sati yatkāryaṃ na bhavati tadādeśe'pi na
bhavatītyevaṃ kāryā'bhāvasyātideśakaṃ tathāpi na tasyātra pravṛttirasti.
sthānibhūtādaca#ḥ pūrvasyaiva vidhau tatpravṛtteḥ. iha ca sthānibhūtādacaḥ parasyaiva
ṣṭutvapravṛtterityata āha–pūrvasmādapi vidhāviti. sthānibhūtādacaḥ
pūrvasmātparasyāpi vidhau sthānivattvābhyupagamādityarthaḥ. naca `pūrvatrāsiddhīye
na sthāniva'diti niṣedhaḥ śaṅkyaḥ, `tasya doṣaḥ' ityatra ṇatvagrahaṇaṃ
māstvi'tyuktaṃ. tadrītyāpyāha–bahiraṅgasyāllopasyāsiddhatvādveti.
allopo'ṅgasaṃjñāsaṃjñāpekṣatvādbahiraṅgaḥ. ṣṭutvaṃ tu
tadapekṣayālpāpekṣatvādantaraṅgam. tasmin kartavye
bahiraṅgasyā'llopasyāsiddhatvādakāravyavahitatvānna ṣṭutvamityarthaḥ. nanu
yathoddeśapakṣe `asiddhaṃ bahiraṅga'miti ṣāṣṭhīṃ paribhāṣāṃ prati
ṣṭutvasyā'siddhatayā'ntaraṅgā'bhāvena paribhāṣā apravṛtteḥ
kathamihā'llopasyā'siddhatvamityata āha–kāryakālapakṣe iti. lakṣyānurodhādiha
yathoddeśapakṣo nāśrīyate ityanyatra vistaraḥ. atha priyāṣṭanśabdasyātvapakṣe
viśeṣamāha-jaśśasoriti. `aṣṭābhya au'śiti jaśśasorauśādeśavidhau
kṛtātvanirdeśājjñāpyamānamātvamaṣṭanśabdasya prādhānye satyeva bhavati, na
tūpasarjanatve'pi, `aṣṭābhya' iti bahuvacananirdeśāt. anyathā `hāha' iti
pañcamyantavat `aṣṭa auś' iti nirdiśediti `ṣṇāntā ṣaṭ' iti sūtre bhāṣye
spaṣṭam. tataḥ kimityata āha–teneti. aṣṭanśabdasya gauṇatāyā jaśśasorviṣaye
ātvā'bhāvenetyarthaḥ. halādāveveti. `aṣṭana ā vibhaktau' ityatra `aṣṭana'
ityekavacananirdeśena aṣṭanśabdārthasya prādhānyāśrayaṇe mānā'bhāvāditi bhāvaḥ.
`gauṇamukhyayormukhye kāryasampratyayaḥ' ityapi nātra pravartate, tathā sati `aṣṭābhya
au'rityatra bahuvacanavaiyathryāditi bodhyam. halādāvevetyevakāreṇa jaśśasorapyātvasya
pakṣe'pi vyāvṛttirūrtaivānūdyate. auṅādau tu halāditvā'bhāvādeva ātvasya na
prasaktiḥ. priyāṣṭā iti. sau hali `aṣṭana ā vibhaktau' ityātve rutvavisargāviti
bhāvaḥ. ṣaḍbhyo luk' iti `ṣaṭcatubhrya' iti ca gauṇatāyāṃ na pravartata iti ca
prāguktaṃ na vismartavyam. tathā ca ajādau sarvatra rājavadeva rūpāṇi, halādiṣu pakṣe
sarvaṃ rūpam. halādiṣu vibhaktiṣu tu hāhāśabdavadanyacca rūpam. cakārādrājavadapi.

auśādeśapravṛttyabhāvāya bahuvacananirdeśasyāvaśyakatvāttadasaṅgatiḥ spaṣṭaiva.
tasmātpriyāṣṭanśabdaprayogavicāraḥ sarvo'pyabhitticitrāyita iti śabdenduśekhare
prapañcitam. iti nāntāḥ. atha dhāntāḥ. `budha avagamane'kartari kvip. budh iti
dhakārāntaḥ śabdaḥ. tataḥ subutpattiḥ. sau viśeṣamāha–bhaṣbhāva iti. halbhyādinā sulope
sati pratyayalakṣaṇamāśritya sakāraparakatvādvā, padāntatvādvā `ekāco baśaḥ' iti
