"samāhāranirdeśaḥ" iti vacanamitaretarayoganivṛttyartham,sāmāsantaranivṛttyarthañca, anyathā hi ṅyāpoḥ prāptipadikaṃ ṅyāpprātipadikamityapi ṣaṣṭhīsamāsa āśaṅkyeta. tato ṅyantamābantañca samāsaprātipadikaṃ yat tataḥ syād rājakumāryādibhyaḥ na tu kevalebhyaḥ kumāryādibhyaḥ. ṅyāpostu vidhānenaiva prātipadikaṃ prakṛtiḥ syāt. tasmāt samāhāra dvandvenāyaṃ nirdeśaḥ. tatra tu trayaṃ prakṛtitvenādhikriyate, tena sarvato bhavati.
atha kathaṃ punaratra vigrahaḥ? kecidāhuḥ-- "ṅīśca āpca prātipadikañceti. nanu ca "apratyayaḥ" (1.2.45) iti prātipadikasaṃjñāpratiṣedhād ṅīśceti vibhaktyutpattirna syāt? ucyate; nāyaṃ pratyayaḥ, api tu pratyayānukaraṇamidam. evamapi "prakṛtivadanukaraṇaṃ bhavati" (vyā.pa.113) iti syādeva pratiṣedhaḥ? naiṣa doṣaḥca anukaraṇaṃ dvaidham-- arthasya, śabdamātrasya ceti. jñāpitamācāryeṇaitad dvedhā nirdeśāt -- "parivyavebhyaḥ kriyaḥ" 1.3.18 , "viparābhyāṃ jeḥ" 1.3.19 itīyaṅādeśasya karaṇākaraṇābhyām. ato'tra śabdamātramanukṛtam, na tvarthasahitam. tenātra "apratyayaḥ" 1.2.45 iti nāstyeva pratiṣedhaḥ. prakṛtivadatideśastvarthavatyanukaraṇe. nanu cevamapi halṅyādilopena (6.1.68) bhāvyam? ucyate; ṅyantāt sulopaḥ, na ṅīmātrāt. vyapadeśivadbhāvāt syāditi cet? na; "vyapadeśavadbhāvo'prātipadikena" (śāka.pa.65) ityucyate, prātipadikañcadam. tasmāt "ṅīśca" iti. atha pratyayavidhiviṣayaiṣā paribhāṣā pūrvādiniḥ" 5.2.85 "sapūrvācca" (5.2.87) ityatra jñāpitatvāt? na cāyaṃ pratyayavidhiḥ, kastarhi? lopavidhiriti, ataḥ paribhāṣā na pravatrtata ityastyeva vyapada#eśivadbhāva iti tataḥ pravatrtate lopaśāstram. ataḥ sulopena bhavitavyam-- ṅī ceti. sāmānyena paribhāṣāpravṛttimāśritya ṅīśceti vigrahaḥ.
anyastvāha-- "prayogasya eva kumārī, gaurītyādiṣu ya īkāraḥ so'trānukṛta eva luptavibhaktikaḥ,tena ṅī ityeva bhavati. yadyevam, kuto ṅakāraḥ sāmānyagrahaṇārtha āsajyate? nanu cānukriyamāṇenārthenārthavattvāt punarapi vibhaktyutpattiḥ prāpnoti, tataśca ṅīśceti bhavitavyam? naitadasti; prākkālabhāvinī yā vibhaktistāṃ pratyayalakṣaṇenāśrityāpratyaya 1.2.45 iti pratiṣedhāt. athāpi syāt-- "na ṅisambuddhyoḥ" 8.2.8 iti jñāpakāt pratyayalakṣaṇenāpratyaya 1.2.45 iti prātipadikasaṃjñā na pratiṣidhyate" iti. asadetat; nalopavidhiviṣayamevaitajjñāpakam. ato'tra nāstyeva pratyayalakṣaṇena prātipadikasaṃjñāpratiṣedha iti sthitametat.
nanu ca pratyayatve sati "paraśca" 3.1.2 iti vacanāt pare bhavantaḥ svādayaḥ pūrvāṃ prakṛtimākṣipya bhavanti, na hranyathā paratvamupapadyate, tasya paratvasya pūrvāpekṣatvāt, na ca ṅyādibhyo'nyā prakṛtirupapadyate. tatra ṅyāpprātipadikagrahaṇamantareṇāpi pāriśeṣyādiyameva prakṛtirlabhyate tathā hi, prakṛtyantaraṃ dhāturiti-- tiṅantañca, vākyañca. pratyayā api svādayaḥ, ṭābādayaḥ aṇādayaśca. tatra dhātostāvat svādibhirna bhavitavyam, te hrekatvādiṣvartheṣu vidhīyamānāstadvantaṃ śabdamākṣipanti. na ca dhāturekatvādimān. athāpyaviśeṣaṇotpadyante, utpannānāṃ tu niyamaḥ kriyate? tathāpi na #aiva teṣāṃ dhātorutpattiryuktā; sāmānyavihitānāṃ svādīnāṃ viśeṣavihitaistavyadādibhirbādhitatvāt. ṭābādayastarhi dhātorbhaveyuriti cet? syādetat. asati ṅyāpprātipadikagrahaṇe'kārāntebhyo dhātubhyo jugupsādibhyaḥ "ataḥ" 4.1.4 iti ṭāp syāt, apidbhyo vañcuprabhṛtibhyaḥ "ugitaśca" 4.1.6 iti ṅīp syāt, nakārāntebhyo manprabhṛtibhyaḥ "ṛnnebhyo ṅīp" (4.1.5) iti ṅīppratyayaḥ iti? etacca nāsti ; yataḥ striyāṃ ṭābādayo vidhīyante, kriyāvacanaśca dhātu#ḥ. kriyāyāścāsattvabhūtatvālliṅgena yogo nāsti; tasya dravyadharmatvāt. etena tiṅantādvākyācca ṭābādīnāmutpattiḥ pratikṣiptā; tayorapi kriyāpradhānatvāt. aṇādīnāmapi naiva dhātorutpattirupapadyate. te hrapatyādinārthena sambandhe sati vidhīyante. dhātuvācyasyārthasyāsattvabhūtatvādyathā strītvena yogo na sambhavati, tathāpyapatyādinā hrarthena. etena tiṅantādvākyāccāṇādīnāmutpattirnirastā; tadarthasyāpi kriyāpradhānasyāpatyādinā sambandhābhāvāt. devadattasya pacati yastasyāpattyamiti satyapi sambandhe "tiṅaśca" 5.3.56 iti jñāpakānna bhavati. ye'patyādinārthena sambandhe taddhitā vidhīyante te'nantaroktayā nītyā mā bhūn, ye tu svārthe vidhīyante tairyuktameva bhavitumiti cet? vātrtametat; yathaiva hi svādīnāṃ sāmānyavihitānāṃ viśeṣavihitaistavyadādibhirbādhitatvāt tadutpattirnopapadyate tathā svārthikānāmapi sāmānyavihitānāṃ svārthikaistumunnādibhirviśeṣavihitairbādhitatvānnopapadyata eva. tiṅantāt tarhi ke syuriti cet? jñāpakānna bhaviṣyanti. yadayaṃ kvacit taddhitavidhau tiṅgarhaṇaṃ karoti-- "atiśāyane tamabiṣṭhanau" 5.3.55 "tiṅaśca" 5.3.56 iti, kvacit taddhitavidhau tiṅgrahaṇaṃ karoti-- "atiśāyane tamabiṣṭhanau" 5.3.55 "tiṅaśca" 5.3.56 iti, tajjñāpayati-- tiṅantāt taddhitā na bhavantīti. vākyāt tarhi bhaveyariti cet? anabhidhānānna bhaviṣyanti. na hi "devadattasyā()ākaḥ" ityukte vākyārthagatā ajñātādayo'rthāḥ kapratyayena dyotyante, kiṃ tarhi? a()āśabdagatā eva.
svādibhirapi naiva tiṅantādbhavitavyam, teṣāṃ hrekatvādayo'rthāḥ,te ca tiṅabhirevoktāḥ. na coktarthānāṃ prayoge yuktaḥ; "uktārthānāmaprayogaḥ" (vyā.pa.60) iti vacanā. nanu coktārthānāmapi prayogo dṛśyate, yathā-- eko dvau bahava iti cet? yukto'tra prayogaḥ vacanagrahaṇāt. "prātipadika" ityādau hi sūtre vacanagrahaṇasyaitat teṣāṃ bhavati; tatrāsyāḥ paribhāṣāyā upasthānāt. tena liṅgaviśiṣṭānāmapi sarvādīnāṃ sarvanāmakāryamupapadyate. yadyevam, imameva nyāyamāśritya śakyaṃ ṅyābgrahaṇamakarttum? naitadasti; na hi prātipadikasaṃjñā liṅgaviśiṣṭasyārthavataḥ śabdarūpasya bhavitumarhati; "aprtayaya" 1.2.45 iti pratiṣedhāt. na ca prātipadikasaṃjñāvidhau sarve'rthavantaḥ saṃjñinaḥ svarūpeṇa śakyā darśayitum; teṣāmānantyāt. yadyevam, "ṇāviṣṭhavat prātipadikasya" (vā.813) ityatrāpi tarhīyaṃ paribhāṣā nopatiṣṭhate; svarūpāgrahaṇāt, tataśca liṅgavśīṣṭeṣvaṣṭhavadbhāvo na syāt. tatra ko doṣaḥ? kumārīmācaṣṭe kumārīyatītyatra ṭilopo na syāt? naiṣa doṣaḥ; bahulamiṣṭhavadbhāva iṣyate, tathā ca curādau paṭha()te "prātipadikād dhātvarthe bahulamiṣṭhavacca" (curā.ga.sū.186) iti. tasmādbahulavacanālliṅgaviśiṣṭasyāpīṣṭhavadbhāvo bhaviṣyati.
"kiñca" ityādanā prayojanāntaraṃ samuccinoti. taditi ṅyāpoḥ pratyavarśaḥ. ṅyantādābantācca taddhitavidhānaṃ yathā syādityevamarthaṃ ca ṅyābgrahaṇam. "kālitarā" iti. kālaśabdājjanapadādisūtreṇa 4.1.42 ṅīp, tadantāt "dvivacanavibhajyopapade" 5.3.57 ityādinā tarap, "gharūpakalpa" 6.3.42 ityādinā hyasvaḥ. "hariṇitarā" iti. haritaśabdāt "varṇādanudāttāt topadhāto naḥ" 4.1.39 iti ṅīp, takārasya nakāraḥ, "aṭkupvāṅ" 8.4.2 ityasati ṅyābgrahaṇe paratvādātiśayikaḥ syāt. a()smastu sati ṅyāpostaddhitavidhāne prakṛtitvenāśrayaṇāt pūrvaṃ ṅyābbhyāṃ bhavitavyamiti tadantāt taddhitavidhiḥ sidhyati. nanu cāntaraṅgaḥ strīpratyayaḥ, bahiraṅgāstaditāḥ, tathā hi-- "samarthānāṃ prathamādvā" 4.1.82 ityadhikārādvibhaktyantāte utpadyante, vibhaktayaśca karmādyapekṣāḥ, karmādayaśca bāhrakriyānimittatvādbahiraṅgāḥ tataśca nimittasya bahiraṅgatvāt taddhitā api bahiraṅgāśrayā eva bhavanti; liṅgasya tu sambandhyantarānapekṣatvādantaraṅgatvañca, atastannimittā api ṭābādayo'ntaraṅgā bhavanti, tataścāntaraṅgatvādeva ṭābādibhistāvadbhavitavyam, paścāt tadantāt taddhitairityapārthakaṃ ṅyābgrahaṇam? naitadasti; tadantāt taddhitavimadhānārthaṃ ṅyābgrahaṇamityatra hi vākye taddhitagrahaṇena svārthikā ye taddhitāsta eva vivakṣitāḥ. imamevārthaṃ sūcayituṃ kālitarā, hariṇitareti strīpratyayāntāt svārthika eva tarappratyaya udāhmataḥ.
svārthikeṣu ca "samarthānām" 4.1.82 ityetannānuvatrtate. tathā hi kṣyati vṛttikāraḥ-- "svārthikapratyayāvadhiścāyamadhikāraḥ "prāgdiśo vibhaktiḥ" 5.3.1 iti yāvat. svārthikeṣu hrasyopayogo nāsti" iti. evañca sati vibhaktyutpattimanapekṣya prātipadikādeva svārthikairbhavitavyamiti kutasteṣāṃ bahiraṅgatvam ! nanvevamapi kālitaretyādyanudāharaṇam; tarappratyayasya bahiraṅgatvāt. sa hi yadyapi vibhaktyutpatiṃ()ta nāpekṣate, pratiyoginaṃ tu bāhrārthamapekṣata eva, strīpratyayasya tu na kaścit pratiyogyapekṣeti tasyāntaraṅgatvam? naiṣa doṣaḥ; udāharaṇadigiyaṃ vṛttikāreṇa darśitā.
etāni tvatrodāharaṇāni darśayitavyāni-- enikā, śyenikā, rohiṇiketi. atra hi yadi pūrvaṃ taddhitaḥ syāt tadetaśyatarohitaśabdebhyo'jñātādyarthavivakṣāyāṃ kapratyaye "varṇādanudāttāt topadhāt to naḥ" 4.1.39 ityanena ṅībnakārau na syātām. yadi tarhi ṅyābantāt taddhitavidhānārthaṃ ṅyābgrahaṇam, samāsāntā api tadantādeva syuḥ, tataśca bahavo gomanto'syāṃ nagaryāmiti syāt, bahuvrīhau kṛte "ugitaśca" 4.1.6 iti ṅīp, tataśca "nadyṛtaśca" 5.4.153 iti kapi bahugomatīketi rūpaṃ syāt, bahugomatketi ceṣyate? naiṣa doṣaḥ; na hi samāsāntāḥ samāsādutpadyante. kiṃ tarhi? akṛta eva samāse tadarthāduttarapadāt. tathā hi "na kapi" 7.4.14 ityatra vakṣyati vṛttikāraḥ-- "gostriyorupasarjanasya" 1.2.48 ityayamapi hyasvaḥ kapi na bhavati, samāsārthe hruttarapade kapi kṛte paścāt samāsena bhavitavyamiti strīpratyayāntaṃ samāsaprātipadikaṃ na bhavati" iti. na ca bahavo gomanto'syāṃ nagaryāmityatra vākye samāsārthamuttarapadaṃ striyāṃ vatrtata iti prākkapaiva bhavitavyam, paścāt samāsena, tataḥ strīpratyayena pratyayānupūvryā bahugomatketi siddhaṃ bhavati.
yida tahrrakṛta eva samāse tadarthāduttarapadāt samāsāntā bhavanti, tadā "nañastatpuruṣāt" (5.4.71) ityatra "nañaḍhaḥ pare vakṣyamāṇā ya ṛgādayastadantāt tatpuruṣāt samāsāntā na bhavanti" ityeṣa vṛttigrantho virudhyate, tebyastatpuruṣasamāsārthebhyaḥ samāsāntā na bhavantīti vaktavyaṃ syāt? nañaḥ prakṛtatvāt sa eva vijñāyate. "tatpuruṣāt" 5.4.71 ityatrāpi tatpuruṣaśabdastādathryāt tatpuruṣārtha uttarapade vatrtate. tatra punaḥ ṛgādeḥ śrutatvādṛgādireva vijñāyate, tadantāt tatpuruṣāditi ca vyadhikaraṇe pañcamyau. tato'yamarthaḥ nañaḥ pare ya ṛgādayaste samīpabhūtā yasya nañastasmāt paraṃ yattatpuruṣārthamṛgādipadaṃ tataḥ samāsānto na bhavatīti. atha vā-- avayavavacano'ntaśabdaḥ, samānādhikaraṇa eva pañcamyau; tādathryāt. ṛgādyantaṃ tatpuruṣārthaṃ yudattarapadaṃ tadeva. tadantāt tatpuruṣārthādityuktam. tataścāyamarthaḥ nañaḥ pare ya ṛgādayastadantāt tatpuruṣārthāduttarapadāt samāsāntā na bhavantīti. tat punastadantatatpuruṣārtham. uttarapadaṃ sāmathryādṛgādyeva vijñāyate. "bahuvrīhau saṃkhyeye ḍajabahugaṇāt" 5.4.73 ityatra tarhi yo'yaṃ vṛttigranthaḥ-- "saṃkhyeye yo'yaṃ bahuvrīha#irvatrtate tasmādabahugaṇāntāḍḍacpratyayo bhavati" iti, tasya virodhaḥ? nāsti virodhaḥ; atra hi bahuvrīhrarthamuttarapadameva tādathryādbahuvrīhirityuktaṃ bhavati. tadayamarthaḥ-- saṃkhyeye yadbahuvrīhrarthamuttarapadaṃ vatrtate tasmāḍḍcpratyayo bhavatīti. anayā diśā'pyanya evañjātīyā virodhāḥ parihatrtavyāḥ. tadevaṃ sthitamevaitat-- tadantāt taddhitavidhānārthaṃ hrābgrahaṇamiti, vipratiṣedhāt taddhitavidhānārthaṃ ṅyābgrahaṇamiti, vipratiṣedhāt taddhitavalīyastvamiti.
yadyevam, "yunastiḥ" 4.1.77 "ūṅutaḥ" 4.1.66 ityetayorapi tyūṅogrrahaṇaṃ kasmānna vijñāyate, tadantāt taddhitotpattiryathā syāt-- yuvatitarā, brāhṛbandhūtareti? "nadyāḥ śeṣasyānyatarasyām" 6.3.43 ityūṅo vikalpena hyasvatvaṃ na katrtavyam; hrābgrahaṇasyopalakṣaṇārthatvāt. "striyām" 4.1.3 iti prakṛtya yeṣāṃ vidhānaṃ tadupalakṣaṇārthamiha ṅyābgrahamam. atastyūṅorapi grahaṇamiha kṛtameva veditavyam.
