Grammatical Sūtra: धातुसम्बन्धे प्रत्ययाः dhātusambandhe pratyayāḥ

Description:

When there is a syntactical relation between the senses of the verbs, the affixes are valid, even in denoting time other than that for which they have been specifically enjoined. Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

Affixes (praty-ayāḥ) [which are introduced under specific conditions of time such as past (bhūt-é 2.84), present (várt-a-m-āne 2.1.8) or future (bhav-i-syát-i 3.3)] occur also when their verbal stems are connected with other verbal stems (dhātu-sambandhé) [and the actions denoted are related to other actions referring to dfferent times].
