"vatrtamāna ityeve"ti. "vatrtamāna laṭ" 3.2.123 ityato vatrtamānagrahaṇamanuvatrtata iti darśayati. "sañjñāyām" iti. vatrtata iti "puvaḥ saṃjñāyām" 3.2.185 ityataḥ.
"bāhulakam" ityādi. "lā ādāne" (dhā.pā.1058), bahūnarthāllātīti bahulam. "āto'nupasarge kaḥ" 3.2.3 bahavaḥ punararthāḥ kvacitpravṛttyādayaḥ. tathā coktam-
kvacitpravṛttiḥ kvacidapravṛttiḥ kvacidvibhāṣā kvacidanyadeva.
vidhervidhānaṃ bahudhā samīkṣya caturvidhaṃ bāhulakaṃ vadanti॥ iti.
bahulasya bhāvo bāhulakam. "dvandvamanojñādibhyaśca" 5.1.132 iti manojñāditvādghañ. bahvarthādānaṃ bahulaśabdasya pravṛttinimittamiti tatraivāyaṃ bhāvapratyayaḥ. tad()bāhulakaṃ prakṛtestanudṛṣṭeruktam. pratyayamanādiṃ kṛtvā yaḥ pūrvamupādīyate śabdaḥ sā prakṛtirityucyate. pratyayāt pūrvaṃ kriyata iti prakṛtiḥ. prakarṣeṇa niyamena pratyayaḥ kriyate tasyā iti vā prakṛtiḥ. "prakṛteḥ"iti. jātau ṣaṣṭha()ekavacanam. "tanudṛṣṭeḥ" iti. karmaṇi lyablope pañcamī. tanudṛ()ṣṭa vīkṣya bāhulakamuktamiti. "vibhāṣā guṇe'striyām" 2.3.25 ityanena tviha pañcamī na bhavati; astriyāmiti pratiṣedhāt.
atha vā "vibhāṣā guṇe" iti yogavibhāgādiha pañcamī veditavyā. tanuśabdaḥ śarīravacano'pyasti, guṇavacano'pi; iti tu guṇavacanaḥ prakṛteralpatvaṃ nāma yo guṇastasya vācakaḥ. darśanaṃ dṛṣṭiḥ = upalabdhiḥ, tanorguṇasya dṛṣṭistanudṛṣṭiḥ. tato guṇo nityaṃ guṇinamapekṣata iti gamakatvāt tanuśabdasya prakṛtimapekṣamāṇasyāpi dṛṣṭiśabdena samāso bhavati. ayaṃ tvarthaḥ- prakṛterguṇasya, tayordarśanāditi.
atha vā tanurdṛṣṭiryasyāḥ prakṛteḥ sā tanudṛṣṭiḥ. atra pakṣe yadyapi tanuguṇo dṛṣṭerviśeṣaṇam, tathāpyasau dṛṣṭeḥ prakṛterapi viśeṣaṇatvena pratīyata eva. prakṛtestanutvādeva hi tad()dṛṣṭitanutvaṃ bhavati. uṇādiṣu pañcapādyāṃ svalpāḥ prakṛtayo dṛśyante, tato'nyābhyo'pi ca prakṛtibhyaḥ pratyayā dṛśyante, tasmādbahulagrahaṇādbhavanti. yathā hi "hmaṣerulac" (paṃ.u.1.98) iti "hmaṣu alīke" (dhā.pā.709) ityasmādulajuktaḥ, tathā "śaki śaṅkāyām" (dhā.pā.86) ityato'pi bhavati- śaṅkuleti. kiñca, prāyasamuccayanādapi teṣāṃ taduktamiti sambandhaḥ. taditi bāhulakaṃ parāmṛśyate. teṣāmuṇādīnāṃ prāyeṇa bāhulyena samuccayanaṃ grahaṇaṃ vidhānaṃ vā prāyasamuccayanam. "tṛtīyā" 2.1.29 iti yogavibhāgāt samāsaḥ. apiśabdaḥ samuccaye. na kevalaṃ prakṛtestanudṛṣṭestad()bāhulakamuktam, api tu prāyasamuccayanādapi teṣāmetaduktaṃ bhavati. na kevalaṃ prakṛtastanvyaḥ paṭhitāḥ, api tu pratyayā api prāyeṇasamuccitāḥ, na sarve, tadarthaṃ bāhulakamiti. bāhulakādvayavahitā api te cet pratyayā unnīya vidhīyante. tathā hi "artteḥ kyurucca"(paṃ.u.5.17) ityarttidhātuḥ paṭhitaḥ,phiḍaphiḍḍau tu pratyayau na vihitau tathāpi ṛphiḍaṛphiḍḍaśabdayordarśanāt tāvapi ca vidhīyete.
"kāryasaśeṣavidheśca taduktam" iti. caśabdaḥ samuccaye. pūrvoktakāraṇadvayādetasmāt tadbāhulakamuktam. vidhānaṃ vidhiḥ = kāraṇam, saha śeṣeṇa vatrtate yo vidhiḥ sa saśeṣaḥ, saśeṣaścāsau vidhiśca saśeṣavidhiḥ, kāryāṇāṃ saśeṣavidhiḥ kāryasaśeṣavidhiḥ. tasmācca bāhulakamuktam. etaduktaṃ bhavati- prakṛteḥ pratyayāśritāni kāryāṇi na niḥśeṣāṇi pañcapādyāṃ darśitāni, iṣyante cādarśitānyapi tāni. atastatsiddhyarthaṃ tad()bāhulakamuktam. tena ṛphiḍa, ṛphiḍ()ḍa- ityatra guṇapratiṣedhaḥ siddho bhavati. evamādi tāvat pratyayāśritaṃ kāryaṃ siddhaṃ bhavati. "ṣaṇu dāne" (dhā.pā.1464), "ñamantāḍḍaḥ" (paṃ.u.1.113) iti ṣaṇḍaḥ. atra "dhātvādeḥ ṣaḥ saḥ" 6.1.62 iti satvaṃ na bhavati. satyapi vā satve punaḥ ṣatvameva kriyata ityevamādi prakṛtyāśritamapi kāryaṃ bāhulakādbhavati. "naigamarūḍhañibhavaṃ hi susādhu" iti. nigamaḥ = chandaḥ, tatra bhavā naigamāḥ, ṛgayanādipāṭhādaṇ. nigamasya veme naigamāḥ. rūḍhiḥ = prasiddhiḥ; bhavantīti bhavāḥ, rūḍhau bavāḥ. "saptamī" 2.1.39 iti yogavibhāgāt samāsaḥ. lokaprasiddhā ityarthaḥ. naigamāśca rūḍhibhavāśca naigamarūḍhibhavam. "sarvo dvandvo vibhāṣaikavadbhavati" (vyā.pa.91) ityekavadbhāva#ḥ, "sa napuṃsakam" 2.4.17 iti napuṃsakaliṅgatā. hiśabdo yasmadārthe. yasmādetadeva bāhulakamanekārthasya sādhakam, tasmānnaigamaṃ rūḍhibhavaṃ suṣṭhu sādhu bhavati; vyākaraṇe bahulagrahaṇena saṃskṛtatvāt. anyathā'saṃskṛsatvād()gāvyādiśabdānāmiva tasyāsādhutvaṃ syāt.
anyairapi pramāṇapuruṣairnaigamarūḍhibhavānāṃ vyutpādyatvamabhyupetamiti darśayitumāha-- "nāma ca dhātujam" ityādi. "nirukte" iti. nirukte śāstre. "nāma" iti. prātipadikam. tasya hīyamanyācāryasaṃjñā. dhātorjātatvāddhātujam. dhātugrahaṇamupalakṣaṇam, pratyayāgamādayo'pi gṛhrante. niruktakāraḥ svaśāstre nirukte prātipadikaṃ dhātujamāha; dhātupratyayakādivibhāgena vyutpāditatvāt. caśabdo'vadhāraṇe, bhinnakramaśca. dhātujamevetyevaṃ draṣṭavyam. śakaṭasya putraḥ śākaṭāyanaḥ so'pi nāma dhātujamevāha. tadevaṃ niruktakāraśākaṭāyanadarśanena trayī śabdānāṃ pravṛttiḥ-- jātiśabdāḥ, guṇaśabdāḥ, kriyāśabdā iti;na santi yadṛcchāśabdā iti. atha vā-- jātiguṇaśabdānāmapi kriyāśabdatvameva; dhātujatvāt. tataścaikaiva śabdānāṃ pravṛttiḥ-- kriyā śabdā iti.
atha yadi prakṛtiviśeṣaṃ pratyayaviśeṣañcopādāyana vyutpāditaṃ śabdarūpam, tasya kathaṃ dhātujatvaṃ veditavyam, na hi prakṛtipratyayānavadhāraṇe dhātujatvaṃ śakyaṃ niścetumityata āha-- "yanna" ityādi. arthaśabdaḥ prayojanavācī, paramarthaḥ prayojanaṃ yasya prakṛtyādeḥ sa padārthaḥ. kathaṃ punaḥ padamarthaḥ prakṛtyāderbhavati? taduddiśya tadupādānāt. padaṃ hi vyutpādayiṣyāmītyevamarthaṃ prakṛtyāderupādānām. kasmāt? prakṛtipratyayaśca padārthaḥ, tasya viśeṣaḥ padārthaviśeṣaḥ. samutthānaṃ samutthaḥ = prādurbhāvaḥ;"supi sthaḥ" 3.2.4 ityatra yogavibhāgena bhāva eva kapratyayaḥ. padārthaviśeṣāt samutthaḥ prādurbhāvo yasya tat "padārthaviśeṣasamuttham". yadevaṃvidhaṃ na bhavati śabdarūpaṃ pratyataḥ prakṛtitataśca tadūhram. dhātujatvenāpi taduktaṃ bhavati-- yasya pratipadoktā prakṛtipratyayaviśeṣānāsāditātmā nirvṛttistasya prakṛtiviśeṣāt pratyayaviśeṣācca dhātujatvaṃ niścetavyamiti.
nanu ca tathāvidhasya prakṛtipratyayaviśeṣasyāparijñānādevāśakyaṃ dhātujatvaṃ niścetumiti matvā pareṇa coditam, tatkathaṃ pratyayataḥ prakṛteśca tadūhramityuktaṃ yujyate? naiṣa doṣaḥ;evaṃ hi brāuvatā'nena prakṛtipratyayāvevaṃ tāvaddhyūhitavyau,tatastābhyāṃ tacchabdarūpamityetadapyarthāduktaṃ bhavati. na hranavadhāritābhyāṃ prakṛtipratyayābhyāṃ śakyaṃ dhātujatvaṃ kasyacinniścetumiti kimatrāyuktam? yatra prasiddhapratyayāvayavena śabdāntareṇa kasyācidbhāgasya sārūpyādhigamo'sti tatra pratyayaṃ dṛṣṭvā pariśiṣṭo bhāgaḥ prakṛtitvenotprekṣitavyaḥ. yathā-- "uṣikuṣigarttibhyasthan" (paṃ.u.2.4) iti thanpratyayāntamoṣṭhādikaṃ prasiddhapratyayāvayavam. tena ca ḍitthavitthaśabdayoḥ kiñcit sārūpyamasti,tataiṣāmiva hi teṣāṃ thaśabdo'vayavo viśiṣṭadeśavatrtī vidyate. tatra thanpratyānte śabdarūpe yo dṛṣṭasthaśabdaḥ pratyayasaṃjñakastatsādṛśyāt ḍitthaḍavitthaśabdasthaṃ thaśabdaṃ pratyayamavadhārya tataḥ pariśiṣṭastayorbhāgo ḍiḍḍaviditi ca dhātutvenohraḥ. tataścaivaṃ sūtraṃ katrtavyam-- ḍīṅasthaṇ ḍiḍḍavicceti. "ḍīṅa vihāsā gatau" (dhā.pā.1135) ityasmāt thanpratyayaḥ, ḍīṅaśca ḍiḍḍavidityetāvādeśau bhavataḥ. yatra tu śabdarūpe nijrñātadhātvavayavena śabdāntareṇa kiñcidbhāgagataṃ sārūpyamasti, tatra prakṛtiṃ dṛṣṭvā pariśiṣṭo bhāgaḥ pratyayatvenohitavyaḥ, yathā-- ṛtamiti dṛṣṭaṃ śabdarūpa prasiddhaprakṛtyavayavam, tena ṛphiḍaśabdasya ṛphiḍḍaśabdasya ca kiñcidabhāgagataṃ sārūpyamasti, ubhayeṣāṃ teṣāmukārāditvāt. tatra niṣṭhāpratyayānta ṛtaśabde ya ṛkārāvayavo dhātusaṃjñakastatsādṛśyādṛphiḍaṛphiḍḍaśabdasthañca ṛvarṇaṃ dhātumavadhārya tataḥ pariśiṣṭastayorbhāgaḥ phiḍa iti phiḍḍa iti ca pratyayatvenohraḥ. tataścaivaṃ sūtraṃ katrtavyam-- "artteḥ phiḍaphiḍḍau" iti, "ṛ gatau" (dhā.pā.1098) ityasmāt phiḍaphiḍḍau pratyayau bhavataḥ. ṛphiḍaḥ, ṛphiḍḍaḥ. guṇaḥ pūrvoktāt kāraṇānna bhavati. atha vā-- kitāvevaitau pratyayau vidhātavyau. evaṃ prakṛtipratyayādūhitvā tasya śabdarūpasya dhātujatvamūhitavyam. yat prakṛtipratyayaviśeṣāvayavānugataṃ na taddhātujatvaṃ vyabhicarati, yathā-- katrtavyaṃ karaṇīyamityevamādayaḥ śabdāḥ. "ūhram" iti. anujñāvyam.
na yatra kvacidūhaḥ katrtavyaḥ,api tu viśiṣṭa eva viṣaya iti darśayannāha-- "saṃjñāsu" ityādi. ya ete nirūḍhāḥ sādhutveva śabdarūpāsteṣveva saṃjñāta) sūhaḥ katrtavyo, nānyatra. "dhāturūpāṇi"iti. kalpayitavyānīti śeṣaḥ. "pratyayāśca tataḥ pare" iti. kalpayitavyā ti śeṣaḥ. "kāryāt" guṇābhāvadikāt. "vidyāt"jānīyāt. "anubandhaṃ" kakārādikam. etadanantaroktaṃ "śāstramuṇādiṣu". śāstropanibandhanatvācchāstraviṣayatvādvā śāstramityuktam.
