Individual Word Components: vṛddhaḥ yūnā tallakṣaṇaḥ cet eva viśeṣaḥ
Sūtra with anuvṛtti words: vṛddhaḥ yūnā tallakṣaṇaḥ cet eva viśeṣaḥ ekaśeṣaḥ (1.2.64)
Type of Rule: vidhi

Description:

The vṛiddha (or patronymic Gotra word becomes ekaśesha, and is retained, when compounded) with a patronymic word called yuvan, provided that the specific difference in form between them be in their signs (affix) only. Source: Aṣṭādhyāyī 2.0

If a derivative denoting vr̥ddhá (= a gotrá descendant 4.1.162) is used along with one denoting a yúvan descendant (4.1.163-165), only the former [remains 64] provided the only difference between the two derivatives is that they are descendants of the same ancestor (tád=lakṣaṇaś céd-evá).
