kāmya काम्य

Definition: काम्य a. [कम्-ण्यत्] 1 To be desired, desirable; सुधा विष्ठा च काम्याशनम् Śānti.2.8. -2 Optional, performed for some particular object (opp. नित्य); अन्ते काम्यस्य कर्मणः R.1.5; Ms.2.2;12.89; Bg.18.2. -3 Beautiful, lovely, charming, handsome; नासौ न काम्यः R.6.3; U.5.12. -म्यम् A class of buildings (Māna. 31.2.3). -म्या 1 A wish, desire, intention, request; ब्राह्मणकाम्या Mk.3; R.1.35; Bg.1.1. -2 A cow; ŚB. on MS.1.3.49. -Comp. -अभिप्रायः a self-interested motive or purpose. -कर्मन् n. a rite performed for some paticular object and with a view to future fruition. -गिर् a. sweet-voiced, having a pleasing voice; प्रियसखीसदृशं प्रतिबोधिताः किमपि काम्यगिरा परपुष्टया Śi.6.8. (-f.) an agreeable speech. -दानम् 1 an acceptable gift. -2 a free-will offering; voluntary gift. -मरणम् voluntary death, suicide. -वृत्तम् voluntary vow.
