sapta sindhavaḥ The seven rivers,' occur only once in the Rigveda as the designation of a definite country, while elsewhere the seven rivers themselves are meant. Max Muller thinks that the five streams of the Panjab, with the Indus and the Sarasvatī, are intended; others4 hold that the Kubhā should be substituted for the Sarasvatī, or that perhaps the Oxus6 must originally have been one of the seven. Zimmer is probably right in laying no stress at all on any identifications; 'seven' being one of the favourite numbers in the Rigveda and later.
sapta sūryāḥ The 'seven suns' referred to in the Samhitās, are named in the Taittirīya Araṇyaka as Aroga, Bhrāja, Paṭara, Patañga, Svarṇara, Jyotiṣīmant, and Vibhāsa, but these occur very rarely even later. Weber at one time thought that the seven planets (see Graha) were meant by the phrase, but later he abandoned the idea. Probably the 'seven rays' of the Rigveda are meant.
saptagu Is the reputed author of a Rigvedic hymn in a verse of which he is mentioned.
saptamānuṣa Is found in one passage of the Rigveda as an epithet of Agni, ‘belonging to the seven tribes.’ Hopkins thinks that this is a reference to the seven ‘family’ books of the Rigveda, but this seems less likely than the view of Roth, that saptamānusa is equivalent to vaiivānara.
saptavadhri Is the name of a protágá of the Aśvins, who appear from several passages of the Rigveda to have rescued him from a tree in which he had got fastened. He is mentioned in the Atharvaveda. According to Geldner, he is identical with Atri.

M, Bh. on P.I.2.49 Vart. 2. On account of the frequent occurrence of the word सति in a large number of examples of this locative absolute, the term सतिसप्तमी is used by modern grammarians for the better word सत्सप्तमी in the Mahabhasya: confer, compare M.Bh. on P,VI.4.23 as also on P.VIII. 3.61...

I. 1. 19. or सप्तम्यास्त्रल् P. V. 3. 10; cf also द्वितीयादयः शब्दाः पूर्वाचार्यः सुपां त्रिकेषु स्मर्यन्ते Kāśikā of Jayāditya and Vāmana. on P. II. 3.2: ( 2 ) the seventh of the moods and tenses; the optative mood; confer, compare Kat. III. 1, 20; Hemacandra III. 3. 7.
saptasvaralit, the seven accents; the term refers to the seven accents formed of the subdivisions of the three main Vedic accents उदात्त, अनुदात्त and स्वरित viz उदात्त, उदात्ततर, अनुदात्त, अनुदात्ततर, स्वरित, स्वरितोदात्त,and एकश्रुति: cf त एते तन्त्रे तरनिर्देशे सप्त स्वरा भवन्ति ( उदात: । उदात्ततरः । अनुदात्तः ! अनुदात्ततरः । स्वरित: । स्वरिते य उदात्तः सोन्येन विशिष्टः । एकश्रुतिः सप्तम: ॥ M. sapādasaptādhyāyīa term used in connection with Panini's first seven books and a quarter of the eighth, as contrasted with the term Tripadi, which is used for the last three quarters of the eighth book. The rules or operations given in the Tripadi, are stated to be asiddha or invalid for purposes of the application of the rules in the previous portion, viz. the Sapadasaptadhyayi, and hence in the formation of' words all the rules given in the first seven chapters and a quarter, are applied first and then a way is prepared for the rules of the last three quarters. It is a striking thing that the rules in the Tripadi mostly concern the padas or formed words, the province, in fact, of the Pratisakhya treatises, and hence they should, as a matter of fact, be applicable to words after their formation and evidently to accomplish this object, Panini has laid down the convention of the invalidity in question by the rule पूर्वत्रासिद्धम् P. VIII. 2,1.
