अकर्मन् a. [न. ब] 1 Without work, idle; inefficient. -2 Disqualified for performing the necessary rites, wicked, degraded; अकर्मा दस्युरभि नो Rv.10.22.8. -3 (Gram.) intransitive, generally in this sense अकर्मक. --n. (र्म) [न. त] 1 Absence of work; absence of necessary observances; neglect of essential observances; inaction; अकर्मणश्च बोद्धव्यं गहना कर्मणो गतिः Bg.4.17,18. -2 An improper act; crime, sin. -3 Not doing (= अकरणम्), non-performance; प्रतिषेधादकर्म MS.1.8.1. -4 What should not be done; अकर्म वा कृतदूषा स्यात् । MS.12.1.1 (where शबर explains अकर्म by न वा कर्तव्या दार्शिकी वेदिः ।). -5 Non-act, non-activity: अन्यद्धि कर्म भक्षणं प्रतिषिध्यमानम् अन्यद् अकर्म मानसः संकल्पः । ŚB. on MS.6.2.19. -6 Not doing, violation. तदकर्मणि च दोषः MS.6.3.3. अधिकर्मन् n. [अधिकं कर्मं] 1 A higher or superior act. -2 Superintendence, -m. One who is charged with superintendence. -Comp. -करः, कृत् a sort of servant, overseer of workmen. -कृतः [अधिकर्म कृतं येन निष्ठान्तस्य परनिपातः] one appointed to superintend an institution or establishment; सर्वेष्वधिकृतो यः स्यात् कुटुम्बस्य तथोपरि । सो$धिकर्मकृतो ज्ञेयः स च कौटुम्बिकः स्मृतः ॥ In families he is the head or paterfamilias
अपकर्मन् a. [बहु. स.] Of bad or degraded actions, corrupted, depraved. -n (˚र्म) 1 Discharge, paying off (of a debt); दत्तस्यानपकर्म च Ms.8.4. -2 An improper or unworthy act; evil doing, conduct, or course; any degrading or impure act. -3 Wickedness, violence, oppression. -4 Incompetence, laziness.
उपाकर्मन् n. 1 Preparation, beginning, commencement; अध्याय˚. -2 A ceremony performed before commencing to read the Veda after the monsoons (cf. श्रावणी); अध्यायानामुपाकर्म श्रावण्यां श्रवणेन वा । हस्तेनौषधिभावे वा पञ्चम्यां श्रावणस्य तु ॥ Y.1.142; Ms.4.119.
परिकर्मन् m. A servant. -n. 1 Painting or perfuming the body, personal decoration, dressing, toilet; कृताचारपरिकर्माणम् Ś.2. -2 Painting or dyeing the foot; असमाप्ते परिकर्मणि स्मृतः Ku.4.19. -3 Preparation. -4 Worship, adoration; अविक्लमस्ते परिकर्मणि स्थितः Bhāg. 2.9.29. -5 (In Yoga phil.) Wildcard Searches and Exact Matching
To replace many characters us * example śakt* will give all words starting with śakt. To replace an individual character use ? for example śakt?m will give all words that have something in place of the ?. By default our search system looks for words “containing” the search keyword. To do an exact match use “” example “śaktimat” will search for this exact phrase.
Special Searches
Type sandhi: and a phrase to search for the sandhi of the two words example.
sandhi:sam yoga will search for saṃyoga
Type root: and a word to do a root search only for the word. You can also use the √ symbol, this is easily typed by typing \/ in SanskritWriter software.
