yājñavalkya याज्ञवल्क्य

Definition: m. (y/ā-,fr. yajñavalka-) Name of an ancient sage (frequently quoted as an authority in the ;the first reputed teacher of the vājasaneyi-saṃhitā- or White yajur-veda-, revealed to him by the Sun;he is also the supposed author of a celebrated code of laws, which is only second in importance to that of manu-, and with its well-known commentary, the mitākṣarā-, is the leading authority of the mithilā- school; see ) etc.
