He is represented as a messenger from the gods to men and vice versa and as being very fond of promoting discords among gods and men; hence his epithet of Kalipriya. nārada Is the name of a mythical seer mentioned several times in the Atharvaveda. In the Aitareya Brāhmana he appears in conjunction with Parvata as priest of Hariścandra, as teaching Somaka Sāhadevya, and as anointing Ambāsthya and Yudhāmśrausti. In the Maitrāyanī Samhitā he is mentioned as a teacher, and in the Sāmavidhāna Brāhmana as a pupil of Brhaspati. In the Chāndogya Upanisad he is coupled with Sanatkumāra.
