kūṭa A word found in the Rigveda, the Atharvaveda, and the Brāhmanas, is of doubtful signification. On the whole, the most probable sense is hammer, which suits every passage adequately. The St. Petersburg Dictionary renders it horn,’ which is the sense accepted by Whitney for the Atharvaveda passage where it occurs. Geldner thinks that it means trap.
