jyā Is the regular word for ‘bowstring’ in the Rigveda and later. The making of bowstrings was a special craft, as is shown by the occurrence of the Jj'ā-kāra, or ‘ maker of bowstrings,’ among the victims at the Purusamedha, or human sacrifice, in the Yajurveda. The bowstring consisted of a thong of οχ-hide. It was not usually kept taut, but was specially tightened when the bow was to be used. The sound of the bowstring (jyā-ghosa) is referred to in the Atharvaveda. Cf. Ártnī.
jyāhroḍa Occurs in the description of the arms of the Vrātya in the Pañcavimśa Brāhmana, and is also mentioned in the Sūtras. The sense is somewhat obscure, for one Sūtra describes it as a ‘bow not meant for use’ (ayogyam dhaηus), while the other speaks of it as a ‘bow without an arrow’ (dhaηuska aηisu). Some sort of a bow, therefore, seems to be meant.
jyā Means ‘bowstring,’with a contemptuous sense, in the Rigveda, and in the simple sense in the Atharvaveda.
jyāpāśa Means ‘bowstring’ in the Atharvaveda.
paramajyā ‘Of supreme power,’ is understood by Ludwig in one passage of the Rigveda as the proper name of a great man among the Yadus. But it is doubtful whether the word is more than an epithet.
jyā (scil. ṛc, ‘verse’) denotes the words uttered at the moment of offering the sacrifice, ‘consecrating sacrificial formula,’ in the later Samhitās and the Brāhmaṇas
vaṇijyā In the Brāhmaṇas denotes the business of a merchant (Vaṇij) ‘ trade.’

vibhajyānvākhyānaa method of forming a word, or of arriving at the complete form of a word by putting all the constituent elements of the word such as the base, the affix, the augment, the modification, the . accent, et cetera, and others one after another and then arriving at the form instead of completing the formation stage by stage; e. g. in arriving at the form स्नौघ्नि the wording स्नौघ्न + अ +ई is to be considered as it stands and not स्नौघ्न + अ = स्नौघ्न and then स्नौघ्न +ई. The विभज्यान्वाख्यानपक्ष in connection with the formation of a word corresponds to the पदसंस्कारपक्ष in connection with the formation of a sentence.
