In the Brhadāranyaka Upanisad denotes an ‘arrow’ like Bāṇa. Its more normal sense is ‘quiver’ (lit., ‘ containing arrows ’), which is its sense in the Vājasaneyi Samhitā and the śatapatha Brāhmana.
