śaityāyana शैत्यायन

Definition: an ancient Grammarian and Vedic scholar who is quoted in the Taittiriya Pratisakhya for recommending a sharp and distinct nasalisation of the anusvara and the fifth class-consonants; cf. तत्रितरमानुनासिक्यमनुस्वारोत्तमेषु इति शैत्यायन: T. Pr. XVII. 1.
